Mission Statement

The mission of the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence, Inc. is to eliminate family violence and to strengthen Asian families and communities.

ATASK accomplishes its mission through:

  • Creating an environment of intolerance to domestic violence through community organizing, education, and outreach efforts in the diverse Asian and mainstream communities.
  • Providing direct services to ensure the safety, stabilization and empowerment of battered Asian families.
  • Forging collaboration with other organizations and individuals committed to ending domestic violence in Asian communities.
  • Providing leadership and advocating for social and political change around issues of domestic violence and other issues that affect Asian families and communities.
  • As projects of ATASK, the Asian Shelter and Advocacy Project (ASAP) and Education and Outreach Program share its mission.

Asian Shelter and Advocacy Project (ASAP)

GOAL: Through our residential and non-residential services, ASAP provides emergency shelter and multilingual services to Asian families experiencing harassment, coercion, physical of sexual abuse.

In addition, ASAP believes that all individuals have the right to live independent, violence-free lives. The purpose of the shelter is to provide Asian women and their children with the safety space and opportunity to lead such lives. ASAP's service model is based on a philosophy of empowerment for Asian women and their children. Thus, all shelter services will be guided by the principle of respect for Asian women.

Education and Outreach

GOALS: The Education and Outreach Program is the community organizing, educational and prevention component of ATASK. Through interactive presentations and trainings with youth and adults, we hope to:

  • Change the climate of tolerance to domestic violence
  • Reach communities not yet reached.
  • Advocate for more effective responses to the needs of Asian families from mainstream resources.
  • Increase collaboration with community based organizations and service providers.

Education and Outreach works from an inclusive model to achieve these goals and ultimately create lasting social change.
