LSO Concert

On May 14th, ATASK and the Longwood Symphony Orchestra

paired up for a benefit concert and to honor the memory of former board member, Pamela Whitney. President, Linda Chin, and Tien Ung began the event by sharing some memories of Pam. The concert was commemorated by Governor Deval Patrick and Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, with official citations for ATASK and Pam Whitney. The LSO musicians, made of members from Boston's medical community, created a memorable experience, highlighted by a special piano performance from Charlie Albright.

Foundation Spotlight

Franklin Square House Foundation

ATASK recently received a significant grant from the Franklin Square House Foundation to make capital improvements to our emergency shelter for women and children impacted by domestic violence and to provide additional funding for our new transitional housing program. Like Franklin Square House Foundation, ATASK is committed to providing women and families with quality housing and support services that will enable them to live productive and successful lives.

Denim Day 2011

Denim Day is an anti-rape, anti-violence, and anti-victim blaming campaign for all peoples of the Boston area.  It's a time to remember that all people have the right to live life without sexual violence and without the fear of sexual violence, that we all have the ability to fight for that right.

Denim Day Boston

Denim Day- Boston 2011 has spread beyond just the Boston area.

This year, YEP (Youth Empowerment Project) youth have worked tirelessly to reach out to communities in Lowell, Lynn, Worcester, and Shrewsbury as well. With over 20 mini-events/ presentations and handfuls of tabling, the youth reached nearly 1600 people and passed out over 2300 custom-painted anti-violence denim patches. Of the tablings, YEP youth spent a day at Tufts University (Medford campus) in front of its Women's Center (picture on right) during Open House weekend, where they talked to students and parents on a personal level, told the story of Denim Day and educated people about how they can help to end rape in our communities. At Tufts alone, YEP youth passed out over 100 denim patches, each patch individually hand-made by the YEP youth. Thank you for everyone's support!

Staff Highlight

Congratulations, Sujata and QJ!

ATASK Staff Sujata Ghosh and Qingjian Shi recently completed "Building Your Capacity: Advancing Research through Community Engagement," a collaboration of Harvard University, Tufts University and Boston University and aims to equip individuals working in the community with skills and knowledge about health research.

"BYC was a highly rewarding experience that helped me gain insight into various aspects of community engaged research and working with academic/research collaborators. The knowledge acquired, the experiences shared, and the networks built during this BYC initiative will assist me immensely as I continue to refine ATASK's advocacy practice model and client case management. More importantly, the BYC fellowship helped me garner skills in social innovation premised on ATASK's philosophy of social justice and social change."
