As a non-profit organization,
volunteers are an essential component in helping the ATASK fulfill
its mission. There are
a number of ways to contribute as a volunteer. |

The following is a list of various
volunteer job descriptions.
After reviewing the types of volunteer jobs available, you may fill out an application by using this form. If you are volunteering for the Silk Road Gala, please use this application form. |

| I. Non-Direct Service Volunteers |
| Requirements: |
- Preserve our clients’ confidentiality, agency’s internal information,
and the location of shelter and safehome.
- A six-month or one-semester (if you are a student) minimum commitment
for office volunteers. Special skills volunteers’ time commitment varies
depending on the task and project.
- Attend the agency orientation /training.

| Office Volunteers |
- Provide overall administrative support for the office including organizing
files, updating resources, revising forms, maintaining the office environment,
mailing, and answering phone calls.
|
| Time Commitment: |
- Minimum 3 hours per week
- Monday through Friday
- Any time from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
|
| Special Skills Volunteers |
- Utilize special skills such as graphic/web design, IT consulting,
haircut, make-up, carpentry, arts & crafts, wellness (yoga, aromatherapy,
acupuncture, etc.) to provide professional services for ATASK and their
clients.

| II. Direct Service Volunteers |
| Requirements: |
- Preserve our clients’ confidentiality, agency’s
internal information, and the location of shelter and safehome.
- A one-year or one-academic year (if you are a student) minimum
commitment for direct service volunteers at the shelter.
- Attend the agency orientation and 36-hour volunteer training.
- Submit a CORI (Criminal
Offender Record Information) request form, TB (Tuberculosis)
screening result, and Hepatitis B immunization record.
- Attend a monthly supervisory meeting.

| Shelter/Hotline Coverage Volunteer |
- Cover the hotline shift
- Accompany clients to appointments
- Assist clients with housing search, job search,
directions, and anything else they may need
- Teach life skills (transportation, grocery,
computer, library, etc)
- Plan in-house activities and/or field trips
for women, children and families
- Provide office support (answering phones, filing,
running errands)
- Maintain playroom, donation room, supply room,
and food pantry
- Solicit donations as needed
- Assist Shelter Staff for day-to-day operations
- Pick up and drop off a client
- Screen visitors, answer the door for the clients
- Prepare bed/rooms for new clients
- Translation for groups and meetings if applicable

| Time Commitment: |
- Minimum 3 hours per week
- Monday through Friday
- Between from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
|
| Children's Program Volunteer |
- Provide child care while residents are in meetings (evening)
or at appointments
- Develop and conduct age appropriate activities for children
that are not yet enrolled in daycare/school
- Homework tutoring
- Maintaining playroom
and arts & crafts supplies

| Time Commitment: |
- Minimum 3 hours per week
- Monday through Friday
- Between 9 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.
|
| English as a Second Language
or Computer Tutor |
- Provide one-on-one tutoring to clients (adults) to help them improve
their English or become computer literate.
|
| Time Commitment: |
- Minimum 1-2 hours per week
- Any time between 9:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.
- Additional training may be required

| III. On-Call Volunteer |
| Requirements: |
- Preserve our clients’ confidentiality and agency’s
internal information.
- Attend the agency orientation .
- Must have a vehicle for donations/supplies pick-up/drop-off.

On-call volunteers provide
support in occasional bulk mailings and picking up/dropping
off donations/supplies. |

| IV. Silk Road Gala Committees |
The Silk Road Gala is the annual benefit for ATASK and a celebration of the diverse Asian cultures of its clients. Committee volunteers work closely with ATASK staff to plan and implement the Gala. Sponsorship
This subcommittee is primarily responsible for contacting and securing corporate, individual, and table sponsorships.
Program Planning
This subcommittee is primarily responsible for presenting a unified visual theme for the evening which includes managing the program design and production, decoration, and on-site set-up.
Program Book
This subcommittee is primarily responsible for soliciting corporations, organizations, and individuals to place greetings (commonly referred to as “ads”) in the program book, in addition to advertising the Silk Road Gala in all appropriate media.
Auction
This subcommittee is primarily responsible for all aspects of the silent auction that is part of the Silk Road Gala. Its members should be dedicated to the many tasks required for a successful auction. Duties include several activities prior to, during, and after the Gala.

| V. Volunteers for the day of
the Silk Road Gala |
Silk Road Gala is the annual fundraiser for the
ATASK and a celebration of Asian cultures. Volunteers can support
the ATASK by assisting in various aspects of the event throughout
the day. |

1st
Shift: (11:00 a.m. to 4:30
p.m.)
- Set-up (Auction tables, centerpieces, and other decorations)
2nd Shift: (4:00
p.m. to 10:00 p.m.)
- Greeters/Ushers
- Registration
- Silent Auction Assistance/Auction Close-out
- Photographers and Photographer’s
Assistant
- Event Items/Food Pick-up (need a vehicle)
- Wrap-up
All-Day Shift (11:00
a.m. to 10:00 p.m.)

Time Commitment:
- The day of the event (during the shift)
- Attending a 2-hour orientation is required for the first-time
volunteers (1-2 weeks prior to the event, usually scheduled
on a weeknight).
