Volunteers are crucial to the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence's effectiveness and capacity to provide services and programs in an area in which Asians are disproportionately represented in domestic violence fatalities. With over forty distinct Asian languages and cultures represented in the greater Boston area, linguistically and culturally accessible resources are vital to our ability to provide outreach, education, prevention, and direct services to the many families in need in Asian communities. Volunteers are an indispensable part of this process.
The volunteer program seeks volunteers who share our commitment to eliminating domestic violence and strengthening Asian communities. Volunteers help achieve ATASK's mission through:
• Outreach and Education on domestic violence and the services available to victims through outreach events, media initiatives, youth and community leader conferences, and developing core training curricula.
• Direct work with clients and their children including English-Second-Language classes, childcare, advocate assistance, hotline coverage, and translation.
• Office work ranging from database entry to developing library resources, fundraising and special events.
• Planning and implementing fundraising and special events.
• Participation on the Board of Directors and committees.
Volunteers and staff of ATASK must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times when they are representing ATASK. Therefore, it is important for volunteers to understand and uphold our organizational policies, which affect all services and programs. In depth training is provided to all volunteers on domestic violence, Asian cultural issues, and procedures and services of ATASK.
Additionally, volunteers give time and resources and in return learn new skills, make new contacts, and receive the satisfaction that they are contributing to a larger community effort to eliminate violence in the home.
1. Individuals who wish to volunteer will fill out the application form and send it along with their resume.
2. After reviewing an application form and resume from candidates, ATASK will set up an interview to determine whether there are appropriate “matches” between volunteer interest, time availability, and program needs. Assuming there is a “match,” the Direct Service Coordinator will begin processing the candidates’ application and reviewing the requirements. Please see the job description for the requirements in each volunteer opportunity.
3. Upon completing the requirements, the Direct Services Coordinator will set up work schedule for volunteers and assign them to a direct supervisor in an appropriate program.
Volunteers of ATASK must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times when they are representing the ATASK.
