About Us:
ATASK (Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence) is the only multilingual and multicultural domestic violence organization in Massachusetts dedicated to serving Asian and Pacific Islander communities. For over 30 years, ATASK has been committed to empowering Asian survivors of domestic violence and abuse to rebuild their lives. Our work bridges language and cultural gaps for Asian communities and advocates for social change.
Our culturally specific, trauma-informed services are offered in more than 20 Asian languages and include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, case management and advocacy, legal consultation and representation, and English classes. We support individuals facing barriers related to language, immigration, culture, and socio-economic challenges, helping survivors access safety, stability, and justice.
About the role:
ATASK is seeking a highly organized, resourceful, and creative individual with a strong understanding of social justice and cultural humility. This position is designed to enhance ATASK’s outreach capabilities, focusing on underserved Asian immigrant communities, particularly those facing low income and limited English proficiency, who are survivors of domestic violence and other forms of trauma.
As the Outreach and Community Engagement Specialist, you will play a crucial role in connecting Asian victims with ATASK services tailored to address their unique needs. Your responsibilities will extend to reaching out to providers and businesses in Asian hubs, informing them of ATASK services, collaborating with other organizations to address issues affecting Asian and other marginalized communities, and serving as a representative for ATASK’s mission and vision.
In addition to these responsibilities, you will support the Outreach and Community Engagement Manager in outreach and relationship-building, contribute to the development and facilitation of trainings, assist in data collection, represent ATASK at outreach events, and collaborate with other ATASK programs and community partners. Your role will be pivotal in advancing ATASK’s mission and fostering meaningful connections within the communities we serve.
Location and Commitments:
- Full-Time, non-exempt, 40 hour/week
- Hybrid model, including both in-person and remote work. In-person work is expected at community events, outreach, and tabling.
- 9am-5pm on weekdays, with flexibility for evening or weekend events or activities.
- Primary service areas are Greater Boston and Greater Lowell. Work will also include outreach to growing Asian hubs outside of Boston and Lowell in an effort to reach less resourced and underserved Asian residents and communities.
Reports To: Outreach and Community Engagement Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development and implementation of the O&CE Plan.as assigned by the O&CE Manager,
- Conduct outreach to community, service providers and partner organizations to increase awareness of about ATASK services, and of DV, SA and other forms of abuse in Asian communities.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, providers, academic institutions, faith communities, businesses, coalitions and other stakeholders to strengthen referrals, partnerships and organizing efforts.
- Maintain an active presence in the community by attending coalition and community meetings and community events.
- Assist in coordinating and facilitating outreach and community engagement activities, including cultural festivals, roundtables, rallies, marches and tabling events.
- Support the distribute and dissemination of outreach, educational and awareness materials within Asian communities and Asian serving organizations, business and places of worship
- Collaborate with other ATAS programs to support outreach, education, advocacy, and community organizing efforts.
- Assist in the development of outreach, educational and awareness materials.
- Support staff onboarding trainings and provider trainings, presentations, and other educational initiatives.
- Conduct data collection and entry related to outreach efforts, community engagement activities, dissemination of material, and demographic and geographic information of Asian community.
- Stay informed on ATASK policy initiatives and support policy and legislative advocacy Efforts.
Other Responsibilities as assigned:
- Participate in ATASK program and staff meetings, including providing updates on outreach activities, community events and projects.
- Foster cross-program communication and collaboration across ATASK programs.
- Stay informed on culturally responsive and trauma informed practices relevant to communities served
- Provide general administrative and office support, as needed;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to form meaningful and respectful relationships with community members and partners.
- Demonstrated success in community engagement, outreach, community organizing, public education and/or event coordination.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or can be substituted with a minimum of 2 years’ related experience.
- Bilingual English/Vietnamese or English/Mandarin speaking preferred, not required
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and public speaking skills
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
- Resides in the Greater Boston area or has strong knowledge of and connections to Greater Boston communities preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office and and Office 365 required
- Valid driver’s license/vehicle insurance and reliable transportation required.
- Ability to successfully pass a CORI/background check required.
Salary:
$52,000 – $67,000
