About Us:  

ATASK is the only multilingual and multicultural domestic violence organization in Massachusetts dedicated to serving the Asian and Pacific Islander community. Our culturally specific services, offered in over 20 Asian languages, include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, case management and advocacy, legal consultation and representation, and English classes. 

For over 30 years, ATASK has been at the forefront of empowering Asian survivors of domestic violence and abuse to rebuild their lives. Our work bridges language and cultural gaps for Asian communities and advocates for social change. 

 

About the role:  

ATASK is seeking a highly organized, resourceful, and creative individual with a strong understanding of social justice and cultural humility. This position is designed to enhance ATASK’s outreach capabilities, focusing on underserved Asian immigrant communities, particularly those facing low income and limited English proficiency, who are survivors of domestic violence and other forms of trauma. 

As the Outreach and Community Engagement Specialist, you will play a crucial role in connecting Asian victims with ATASK services tailored to address their unique needs. Your responsibilities will extend to reaching out to providers and businesses in Asian hubs, informing them of ATASK services, collaborating with other organizations to address issues affecting Asian and other marginalized communities, and serving as an ambassador for ATASK’s mission and vision. 

In addition to these responsibilities, you will support the Outreach and Community Engagement Manager in outreach and relationship-building, contribute to the development and facilitation of trainings, assist in data collection, and collaborate with other ATASK programs and community partners. Your role will be pivotal in advancing ATASK’s mission and fostering meaningful connections within the communities we serve. 

 

Location and Commitments:  

  • Full-Time, non-exempt, 40 hour/week 
  • Hybrid model, including both in-person and remote work.  In-person work is expected at community events, outreach and tabling.  
  • 9am-5pm on weekdays, with flexibility for occasional evening or weekend special events or activities.   
  • Primary service areas are Greater Boston and Greater Lowell.  Work will also include outreach to growing Asian hubs outside of Boston and Lowell in an effort to reach less resourced and underserved Asian residents and communities.  

Reports To: Outreach and Community Engagement Manager 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • As assigned by the O&CE Manager, participate in the development and execution of the O&CE Plan. 
  • Conduct outreach to community and service providers to provide information about ATASK services, and of DV, SA and other forms of abuse in Asian communities.   
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, providers and stakeholders (mainstream DV and SA organizations, academic institutions, community groups/leaders, providers, etc.) to facilitate referrals, partnerships and organizing efforts. 
  • Have an active presence in the community, which includes attending coalition and community meetings and community events.  
  • Assist O&CE Manager in coordinating and facilitating outreach and community engagement activities (including cultural festivals, roundtables, rallies, marches, tabling events) 
  • Distribute flyers in Asian communities and Asian serving agencies and places of business and worship 
  • Work with other ATASK departments to support overall outreach, education and community organizing strategy 
  • Support in the development of information/awareness material  
  • Assist O&CE Manager in providing staff onboarding trainings and provider trainings 
  • Conduct data collection, entry on O&CE efforts, dissemination of outreach material, and demographic and geographic info of Asian community. 
  • Keep up to date on ATASK policy initiatives and support ATASK policy work.  

Other Responsibilities as assigned:  

  • Participate in ATASK ASAP (Asian Shelter and Advocacy Program) meetings, providing updates, informing of community events and projects.  
  • Build cross communication and collaboration with other ATASK programs.  
  • Keep up to date on culturally responsive practices  
  • Provide general administrative and office support, as needed; 
  • Perform other duties, as assigned. 

Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrated ability to form meaningful and respectful relationships with community members 
  • Demonstrated success in community engagement, outreach and/or events planning. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or can be substituted with a minimum of 2 years’ related experience. 
  • Bilingual English/Khmer, or English/Mandarin speaking preferred, not required 
  • Strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and dependability 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking 
  • Excellent organizational, communication and public speaking skills 
  • Self-starter and self-motivated with attention to detail. 
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends 
  • Excellent computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office and Office 365  
  • Valid driver’s license/vehicle insurance and reliable transportation preferred. 
  • Ability to pass a background check (CORI) required 

Salary:  

$50,000 – $62,000
