Legal Program Intern
(Semester-long Internship Opportunity with ATASK’s Legal Program)
Position Summary: Join us in making a difference! The Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK) is dedicated to providing critical support to survivors of domestic violence. We are currently seeking motivated and passionate law students for 1-2 semester-long internships within our legal program. Interns must commit to a minimum of one semester (approximately 3 months). Candidates have the option to work in a hybrid model based in our Greater Boston area office.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Empower survivors through conducting client interviews and initial consultations, with potential for direct client service delivery under attorney supervision.
- Conduct research and draft legal documents including memos, affidavits, and other supporting materials in abuse prevention order, family law, and immigration law cases.
- Engage in legal research related to domestic violence matters, including analyzing regulations and bills pertinent to our advocacy efforts.
- Participate in litigation procedures and hearings as needed, with attorneys’ guidance and supervision.
- Attend and actively participate in training provided by our experienced staff, gaining valuable insights and practical skills in the field of domestic violence law and advocacy.
Other Functions:
- Collaborate with the legal team to develop and implement outreach strategies aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence issues and available legal resources within diverse communities.
- Assist in organizing and facilitating workshops or educational sessions on legal rights and procedures for survivors of domestic violence.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of legal resources, including informational materials, guides, and online resources, to support both clients and community partners.
- Support intake assessments and case management tasks, ensuring timely and accurate documentation of client information and case updates.
- Participate in case reviews and team meetings, offering insights and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of legal services delivery.
- Collaborate with external partners, such as other legal service providers, government agencies, and community organizations, to improve coordination and referral pathways for clients.
- Engage in special projects or initiatives assigned by supervising attorneys, providing valuable assistance in advancing ATASK’s mission to advance ATASK’s mission.
Compensation/School Credit: This is an unpaid position. However, we will work with the willing law schools of accepted candidates to ensure interns receive academic credit (if desired).
Experience and Qualifications:
- Candidates must have completed at least one year of law school in the United States.
- Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
- Strong communication and writing skills in English; proficiency in an Asian language is a plus.
- Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, especially survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations.

- A comprehensive 1–2-page resume outlining relevant experience and skills.
- A brief legal writing sample (not exceeding 5 pages) demonstrating research and analytical abilities. (Not more than one year old)
- A list of 2-3 academic or professional references.
